represents many people concerned with many different issues.

In more than 50 countries we help children in the world's most impoverished communities. Emergency work runs alongside long-term development work to help children, their families and communities to be self-sufficient.
We learn from the reality of children's lives and campaign for solutions to the problems they face. We gain experience from our projects around the world and use that knowledge to advise and educate others.

We are part of the International Save the Children Alliance, which aims to be a truly international movement for children.

All our work is underpinned by our commitment to making a reality of the rights of children, first spelt out by our founder, Miss Eglantyne Jebb, and now enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

With such diversity it can be difficult for people outside Save the Children to gain a clear picture of what we stand for

The Save the Children Vision

We look forward to a world:

  • which respects and values each child
  • which listens to children and learns
  • where all children have hope and opportunity

The Save the Children Mission

In a world which continues to deny children their basic human rights:

  • we champion the right of all children to a happy, healthy and secure childhood
  • we put the reality of children's lives at the heart of everything we do
  • together with children, we are helping to build a better world for present and future generations.

Save the Children Values

Our values underpin all our work.
Above all Save the Children is:

CHILD-FOCUSED: as an organisation for children, we try to view the world through children's eyes.

AMBITIOUS BUT PRACTICAL: we set our sights high - for children, not for ourselves, but we accept that our main responsibility is a practical one. We concentrate on making a real difference to children's lives.

INDEPENDENT: we are not beholden to anyone, and we never compromise our integrity. We are prepared to be radical and outspoken if necessary.

OPEN: we work without prejudice of any kind. We learn from our experiences, both our successes and our failures. We are proud of what we do, and we communicate our work clearly and honestly.

COLLABORATIVE: we seek to work with others whenever we can, in order to achieve more for children.

ACCOUNTABLE: we are responsible to those we exist to serve: children, their families and communities, as well as those who support our work. Professionally and financially, we are sound, scrupulous, efficient and effective.

A TEAM: we value diversity in those who work for Save the Children. We have to balance many expectations, but we support each other and never lose sight of our shared purpose.
