Katie Melua, also Save the Children’s Education Ambassador, donates proceeds from new single.

Britain’s biggest selling female singer, Katie Melua, is donating the proceeds from her new single – ‘Spider’s Web’ - to Save the Children.

Katie recently became Save the Children’s Education Ambassador, campaigning for the right of all children to receive an education. She says “it was not a decision I took lightly. Having seen Save the Children’s work at first hand I know how important their projects are and how crucial it is that funds are constantly raised to ensure that their work can continue.”

Jasmine Whitbread, Chief Executive of Save the Children UK praised Katie’s ongoing commitment, saying “she has been really proactive; she has visited Save the Children's work and talks about her experiences in a way that has really inspired young people. I think it's great Katie is releasing a single for Save the Children. The money from the single will help us create dramatic change for vulnerable children across the UK and internationally.”

Spider’s Web is released on April 17th. Europe-wide proceeds from physical and digital sales will be donated. All marketing and promotion costs will be absorbed by Katie’s management and record company, Dramatico Entertainment. Katie and the independent record label have also underwritten the fundraising activity by guaranteeing a minimum contribution to Save the Children.

In 2007 Katie will be travelling to Beijing to raise funds for Save The Children by cycling along the Great Wall of China and later that year Katie will be holding a fundraising concert in Britain.

Spider's web is released on 17th April.
