Should we tax bankers to help poor children?
ACT NOW: Be part of the world's greatest bank job

Dear Friends,

We bailed out the banks in a crisis - a crisis that hit the poorest hardest. Now we're calling on them to do their part to put it right.

Poverty kills childhood and breaks parents' hearts. The scale of the problem can seem overwhelming.

  • 1.7 million children in the UK live in severe poverty
  • 8.8 million children in the world’s poorest countries die every year before their fifth birthday.

In this time of hardship, we need to find innovative ways to raise the money to help end poverty at home and abroad. A tiny tax on transactions between banks would give billions to help poor children.

How would the tax work?
We're asking that governments levy a tiny tax of 0.05% on transactions between banks. When you compare that to the 17.5% VAT we pay every time we go shopping, it does't seem too much to ask. This would generate hundreds of billions of pounds every year to tackle child poverty here in the UK and around the world.

ACT NOW. Support the Robin Hood Tax and take action to end poverty at home and abroad.

Why now?
A time of crisis can also be a time of change. The Robin Hood tax is one of those ideas fast gathering support from thinkers and economists around the world. We also want to make sure it's championed by whoever wins the next election.

Poverty kills childhood. Tell our politicians to support this tiny tax to help end it now.

Best wishes

Ebony, Zoe, Hannah, Saira and Jonathan

Good News! Thanks to all of you who emailed Gordon Brown asking him to drop Haiti's debt. The Group of Seven, the world's richest countries, has recently promised to cancel Haiti's debt, which is great news. But Haiti's foreign debt to donors is still around £500 million. Help keep up the pressure to drop all of its debt, if you haven't done so already. Act now.

We are the world's independent children's charity. We're outraged that millions of children are still denied proper healthcare, food, education and protection. We're working flat out to get every child their rights and we're determined to make further, faster changes. How many? How fast? It's up to you.
