Cricketers endorse our SE Asia Earthquake appeal

England captain Michael Vaughan has led a party of England’s senior players to visit children injured in the Asian Earthquake disaster and help distribute aid. Afterwards he spoke out in support of Save the Children's Children in Emergencies' Appeal.
 'We must continue to do everything we can for children across the world and that is why we are endorsing the Save the Children's appeal for Children in Emergencies. Please join us in supporting it.'
Vaughan was accompanied by Marcus Trescothick, Matthew Hoggard, Ashley Giles and ECB chief medical officer Peter Gregory on a tour of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Science in Islamabad.
Afterwards Vaughan said: ‘as a young father myself it was very distressing to see the injuries that these children have suffered. However we have to remember that these are the lucky ones – the ones that have received aid and medical help. It is important, with winter approaching, that the plight of those needing blankets and tents in the earthquake zone is not forgotten. We have been proud of the fact that so many British men and women are helping the victims of this terrible earthquake.
 ‘Team England and the England and Wales Cricket Board have already donated significant sums to the Disaster and Emergencies Appeal back in London and we are taking part in more fund raising events when we are in Pakistan. We hope that others continue to give much needed funds.
‘Save the Children have been doing some incredible work and we are particularly delighted that the ECB will endorse the Save the Children’s Children in Emergencies appeal. This appeal will ensure that children around the world continue to receive aid and support long after the rest of the world has forgotten the disaster.’
Toby Porter, Director of Emergencies, Save the Children said: ‘Thousands of children have survived disasters this year around the world including the crisis in Niger, the tsunami and in Sudan. They need support and the money raised will help vulnerable children rebuild their lives. This sort of appeal is determined to help them live. We are delighted to have the endorsement of the England team and the England and Wales Cricket Board.’
The Children in Emergencies appeal will ensure Save the Children can continue their work around the world long after an emergency has been forgotten; in Niger, across tsunami affected countries, in the Sudan and countless others. Thousands of children who have survived disasters this year still need your help
