The Mongol Rally - 'The mother of all daft adventures'

This event is raising money for two charities: Send a Cow (livestock to Africa) and Save the Children. Click read more to find out more about this fantastic, yet different, rally
On Saturday 30th July Hyde Park became alive with the sound of the clunking engines and screeching gears as 46 old bangers set off for the mother of all daft adventures - the Mongol Rally.
Over 90 people will be dashing across ¼ of the earth's surface, in cars that most people consider underpowered for doing the shopping, raising money for Save the Children along the way.
The event is the brainchild of Tom Morgan, 25 years old from Chichester, West Sussex. Tom says "My pal and I purchased a slightly dishevelled Fiat 126 whilst on an exchange visit in Prague and it inspired us to drive across some of the worst roads in the world. Along the way we had the idea to set up a charity event open to anyone with a fancy for this type of adventure - hence the Mongol Rally was born. Save the Children has been responding to the many urgent needs of vulnerable children in Mongolia for many years so it seemed a natural choice as one of the charities to fundraise for."
We'll be tracking the progress of the bangers and their drivers as they crawl towards Mongolia,
Why not check on the rally their heroic (but ever so slightly mad) progress by visiting their excellent website - just click the graphic.
