Save the Children fundraiser sets record as the youngest person to sail round the globe solo.
British teenager Mike Perham will be crowned the world's youngest solo circumnavigator when he returns to Gunwharf Quay on Saturday 29 August. Mike, 17, battled storms and struggled with failing navigation equipment, but is now just days away from completing his challenge.
Not satisfied with breaking world records, Mike’s also trying to raise £24,000 for charities, including Save the Children and The Tall Ships Trust. On his travels, he’s sailed round continents where 9.2 million children still die from preventable diseases — that’s one child every three seconds. Three million babies die within a week of being born, including up to two million who die on their first day of life. Mike is supporting Save the Children by raising vital funds to help us save children’s lives. He joins a global effort to stop children dying needlessly.
As Mike says:
“Saving the life of a child can be simple. Whatever you do in life - whether facing the challenge of an epic voyage around the world, or taking a positive approach and donating to charities - it’s about believing you can make a difference.”
“I have chosen to support Save the Children because I believe that we can all do something to improve the lives of children who are struggling for survival in this world.”
Mike aims to raise £24,000 for his chosen charities. If you’d like to donate to Save the Children in support of Mike’s achievement, please go to Mike’s Just Giving page: www.justgiving.com/sailmikesavethechildren
