Save the Children's campaign update 12 August 2008

Save the children
    CAMPAIGNS UPDATE 12 AUGUST 2008

Dear Friend,

Take action

Join us in calling on Gordon Brown to act now to prevent needless child deaths. Millions of lives could be saved with simple solutions like immunisations and mosquito nets. Sign our petition to ask the UK Government to prioritise reducing child deaths.

After the G8, focus turns to the UN

When world leaders met in Japan for their annual G8 Summit, they were presented with messages from more than one million people demanding that the G8 keep their promises for children in the developing world. A huge thank you to everyone who joined our fight for food and asked the G8 to make sure children have food not faff.

Now Save the Children is calling for more action to stop preventable child deaths at the big UN meeting in September. World leaders will gather in New York to talk about how to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Goal 4 is to reduce the number of child deaths by two thirds, and we want to see much faster progress.

Make sure your voice is heard in the fight for food. Sign up to our broccoli tree and we will take your messages to world leaders in September.

Keep the promise

Remember to bring your family and friends to Trafalgar Square for a great day out on 4 October. We're going to remind the government to Keep the Promise and end child poverty in the UK.

Do you want to organise an event in your area to help promote the Keep the Promise event? Can you pledge your support to come on the day? Then email campaigns@savethechildren.org.uk

Warm regards,

Save the Children

Save the Children, 1 St John's Lane, London, EC1M 4AR

We are the world's independent children's charity. We're outraged that millions of children are still denied proper healthcare, food, education and protection. We're working flat out to get every child their rights and we're determined to make further, faster changes. How many? How fast? It's up to you.
