    KROO BAY NEWSLETTER - 5 AUGUST 2008
    Image of river clearing

Dear Friend,

When we last wrote we asked you to sign up to our giant broccoli tree to get the G8 to do something about the rising food prices. A massive 1,271 people have signed the tree. We took your names to the G8 leaders and they have reaffirmed their commitment to increasing aid to Africa including at least $60 billion over five years for disease - specific spending.

So what's new?

150 volunteers are busy clearing the filthy Crocodile River of rubbish. During the rainy season the rubbish choked river floods into people's homes and brings with it disease. By clearing and banking the river we hope to prevent such severe flooding this year. Your support is providing the equipment needed to do this. Check out how the volunteers are doing.

Kadiatu, Isatu and Mabintu

What do these women have in common? The sad truth is that each of them lost a child during last year's floods. They are also friends and neighbours, sharing a compound with five other families. This year, with your support, we hope the river clearing and banking work will mean other families won't suffer in the same way.

It's all about best friends

Bilal, Amadou, Zainab, Isatu and Chris share with you the best things about their friends - and the not so good!

Stick with the kroo

We hope you enjoy our new webisode. Please keep sending in your messages and don't forget you can also donate and support Kroo Bay.

Warm regards,

Save the Children

Save the Children, 1 St John's Lane, London, EC1M 4AR

We are the world's independent children's charity. We're outraged that millions of children are still denied proper healthcare, food, education and protection. We're working flat out to get every child their rights and we're determined to make further, faster changes. How many? How fast? It's up to you.
