Knit a baby's hat in Save the Children's Latest Campaign
Posted on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 @ 19:26:07 UTC by admin
The objects of the campaign is to help save the lives of newborn babies in countries with high child mortality rates and bring the issue of child survival to the attention of the UK government and inspire them to act by showing them that the British public cares about child survival.

Save the Children's Knit Kit

Knit a baby hat

Knitting a hat for a newborn baby can help save its life. Telling politicians to do their bit could save the lives of millions of newborns each year.

A newborn baby can't regulate its own body temperature. It loses lots of vital body heat through its head which make it more prone to pneumonia - a disease which still kills around 2 million children each year.

Your hat can help us save a life

When you knit a hat and send it to us at Save the Children, we'll send your hat to mothers and babies in developing countries who desperately need your help.

Download our knit kit for all the information you need including a knitting pattern and a 'how to knit' beginners guide

Send a message to Gordon BrownYour voice can help us save millions

Your hat can help to save a baby's life. But these babies need more than just hats - they need you to speak up for them.

We're asking everyone who knits a hat to pin a short message to it. Tell politicians that enough is enough. If they don't act now, millions of children will continue to die needlessly every year.

We've designed a card for you to fill in (find it on the back page of the knit kit). We'll make sure your message reaches Gordon Brown. You tell him why he must act today to save newborn lives around the world.

Send your hat and message to:

Save the Children
1 St John's Lane,
London EC1M 4AR

PLEASE NOTE you do need a knit kit to take part because:
a) The pattern is different to patterns for UK babies as the babies we work with tend to be smaller
b) The kit contains the action card and letting the UK government know that you’ve knitted a hat is as important as knitting it.
c) The campaign is about getting as many people as possible to knit just one hat each
This campaign is about providing hats but it’s also about getting people involved, raising awareness and spreading the child survival message. If you want to get more involved why don’t help us to raise awareness of the issue. You could teach a friend to knit, set up a knitting group and hold a knit-in for child survival, write a personal letter to Gordon Brown.
