Millions of people are still waiting for Tony Blair’s G8 legacy to be realised
In 2005, under Tony Blair’s leadership - and with the help of campaigners to MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY - the G8 leaders made ambitious promises to improve health care in developing countries. This included strengthening health systems and achieving universal access to treatment for HIV by 2010.
Whilst there has been some progress made in relation to HIV, little has been done to strengthen health systems. Long-term funding to improve health infrastructure and to address the chronic shortage of health workers is urgently needed. At next week’s G8 summit, world leaders must make this a priority or jeopardise any chance of meeting the universal access target.

Take action with UNICEF UK
Demand more health workers and teachers in developing countries Ask G8 leaders to deliver the aid they have promised, to provide the 4 million health
workers and 2 million teachers desperately needed in the world’s poorest countries.
Raise your voice against poverty
On Saturday 2 June you can help send Tony Blair off to the G8 with an important message ringing in his ears. Wear white, bring your alarm clock or phone alarm, and raise your voices against poverty.
How you can help UNICEF’s work
Help treat a child with HIV
Just £10 will enable UNICEF to provide a month’s worth of the medicines needed to treat a child living with AIDS. Without treatment, over half of the children born with HIV will not live beyond their second birthday.
