| Pictured above is a water
pump in Pashu which is in a remote area of Zimbabwe. The water pump was
installed by Save the Children and was originally to be serviced by the local
authority. The local authority's resources soon ran out so Save the Children stepped in again. This time they trained the women of the village how to service, dismantle and maintain the pumps and made sure that there were always spare parts available in the local shop. This enterprising scheme of helping people to help themselves proved so effective it has been duplicated many times elsewhere |
