| Children help distribute food by boat in flood stricken Somalia (1998). Save the Children's response to the crisis included co-ordinating airdrops of food, providing plastic sheeting, blankets and water containers (with the aid of a £250,000 UK government grant), and supplying (with other International Save the Children Alliance partners) - seeds and tools to farmers. Once the flood water had subsided SCF helped to rebuild collapsed irrigation systems and reservoirs in 35 villages along the banks of the Shebelle river. |
