| In 1982, 50,000 people in
Koraput, Orissa, were displaced by the Upper Kolab Multi-purpose Irrigation
Project. Over 80 per cent of them took the meagre compensation amounts offered
for their lands and moved away, no one knows where. Those who opted to stay in
the rehabilitation camps are regretting their decision, because they are barely
managing to survive as they wait for various promises -- irrigation facilities,
basic healthcare, education - to be fulfilled. Save the Children UKs programme in India aims to improve the lives of poor and vulnerable children, building on the capacity of the children and their families and communities to address their own needs |
