Did you
know that according to a 1994 Department of Health survey that.. .. 15% of families used severe punishment with the use of
implements and repeated actions over prolonged periods of time .. 29% of
children had been physically restrained in the previous year - including cold
bath/shower, hand/object over mouth, shaking, pushing, shoving and throwing.
.. 12% of children had experienced ingestion - forced to eat food, eat
something horrible, forced to drink salt water or had mouth washed out with
soap. SCF have recently published an online booklet to support
parents in managing childrens behaviour called "Parenting With Confidence". You
can view this on the main SCF website byclicking here.

Around the world, there are currently 20 million children who have
been forced from their homes by war. Many of these children find themselves
trapped within their own war torn countries without even the most basic means
of survival and cut off from the outside world. But even if they become
refugees in another country, they still face discrimination and huge
difficulties in getting access to basic services. Together, these are the
forgotten children that Save the Children is campaigning to protect.
For
more details of the forgotton children campaign
click here to visit the official SCF UK website The campaign is now focusing on
the situation of children who become refugees in the United Kingdom.

We are very grateful Ann Beckett, a volunteer fundraiser in Cumbria, for
sharing her poem and sonnet dedicated to STCF with us Click Here to read them |
We are of
course a non religious non political charity but I know many of our supporters
have Christian beliefs and I copied out a
prayer, kindly provided by a
volunteer from Humberside. By changing the odd word the prayer could also be
used by other denominations . Please feel free to print it out and use it
as best you can. |
